Polymer Dissolver-Dosing Equipment
There are many wastewater treatment technologies that result in a sludge phase which must be separated from the water. This is the process of flocculation, in which the small, hard-to-handle sludge flocs in the system – for example from chemical treatment or a biological step – are converted into larger, easily manageable flocs (for settling or flotation). The chemicals used for this are called polymers, and their aqueous solutions are used for the task.
Polymers can be in liquid or solid form. The solid form must be dissolved and the liquid diluted so that the approximately 0.1–0.4% solution required for dosing is available. This takes place in the polymer dissolver, which can be a 3-compartment unit or a 2-tank "tower" design. Both types are available in our product range.
Three-compartment dissolver
The equipment consists of three sequentially connected reactors, each fitted with a mixer. The polymer base material is introduced into the first reactor – using a powder doser for solids and a pump for liquids. The amount of polymer to be dosed and the water needed for the solution are set in the control panel. The solution flows from the first compartment to the second and then to the third while the mixers run continuously. Water introduction is stopped by a level switch in the third reactor when the upper level is reached.
The finished polymer solution is withdrawn from the third compartment by a pump. When the chemical consumption reaches the preset lower level, the level switch signals the automation to restart the process. The capacity of the equipment can be changed with the reactor size and the capacity of the chemical dosers.
Two-compartment (tower) polymer dissolver
In the two-compartment version, one compartment is located on top of the other. The polymer is dissolved or diluted in the upper, mixer-equipped reactor, depending on whether the chemical is in powder or liquid form. The ratio of water and polymer dosing and the mixing time are set in the central control panel. Once this has elapsed, the automation opens the drain valve and the finished polymer solution flows by gravity into the lower tank, from which it is used. After draining, solution preparation restarts in the upper tank so that polymer solution is always ready.
